#1 : Why I'm doing this

Hello there,

First things first - I hope you had a great day, and if not then that's ok. Life is kinda crazy sometimes, and we find ourselves constantly asking how we got here, where we are, where we are headed, and what it all means.

Like many of you I constantly ask these questions, as well as get the occasional existential crisis . But how do we answer them, let alone ask them? Really, take a moment and ask yourself. Personally, I've looked for answers through philosophy, art/music , science and self-reflection. Nonetheless, I found myself lost in an unsteady sea of ideas sailing the best I can to say the least (Figure 1.1: Microscopic view of the Sea of Ideas). Navigating through the turbulent sea of life turned out to be a much, much, much more complicated affair than I anticipated. Maybe a little too complicated to be described in a single Medium Article or a YouTube video.

Do I have the answer? Absolutely not, but it does answer why I'm starting this blog.  I want this blog to be a space where I can express my ideas and build a framework to answer these questions while documenting the process I had to get there (Figure 1.2: Like a Minecraft Map!). I have a certain degree of belief that writing my stream of consciousness over time will help provide a bigger picture to my thought patterns and hopefully help those around me navigate through the big sea of ideas a little better (Because if there's one thing I've learned so far, it's that we all go through similar shit). For those who know me well you know I have a hard time expressing myself vocally, I think it's a symptom of this problem.

But why now? Graduating this past December was an amazing experience and I am extremely thankful for the amazing 4 years of friendships and experiences (FIU <3). However, this also gave me the terrifying opportunity to question every single value, belief, and experience I've had to this point in my life because real life turns out to be quite different to school life. Is this who I am meant to be forever? Do I truly know my own values and motivations (Or defined them)? At the end of the day I think those are the important things we need to figure out in order to not only build meaningful lives, but also create positive and meaningful forms of expression for others, whether it be a piece of music or a VR system. (Figure 1.3: A visual representation of how I'm dealing with my current framework)

Why NoChillNerd? Because why can't nerds have any chill and everyone else can? Just because people have opinions on my intelligence doesn't mean I have to behave a certain way to match their or even my own pre rendered version of what a smart person is, and I hope to show that to others.

Is it a bit selfish that I want to start a blog just to build my new framework? Maybe. I'd like to start by saying these post will regularly be  (at least initially) raw, unpolished, and grammatically incorrect. My goal is to sail through the vast sea of ideas and make sense of everything, hopefully reaching to some understanding and insight. I might be hurling my thoughts and experiences into the wide void of the internet, but I'm not expecting this blog to be read by a large number of people and I'm totally fine with that. If you have something to share I encourage that you share them, because at the end of the day we are all navigating in the Sea of Ideas.

I will be writing blog posts every Tuesday and Friday night, so you'll likely read them the morning after. On the side, I'll also be releasing some music that I'm working on as well as miscellaneous bits of art.

Safe sailing,

~ NoChillNerd
